lyrics

little little boy in the the yellow rain boots
splashing in the puddles carved out by the roots
in the park i hear his laughter, it always survives
this is why i made you, to be, be alive

i left you a message in the drifting sand dunes
on the horizon i painted you a harvest moon
i sent you my love in a river so pure
but you still look to me as though you're unsure

i won't find you if you dont seek me first
without me things are bad, and they'll keep on getting worse
i've always tried to show you myself in the trees
but you cut them down and now you are on your knees

child of mine

i can't stand all that make-up on her face
she's so darn little and she's losing all her grace
she spent an hour deciding what to wear
really my darling, you just shouldn't care

you've buried yourself within your favourite shirt
you say when you wear it, the lies they don't hurt
but when you take that off, oh I just gotta ask
will you find yourself another pretty mask?

you've got your music stuck in your ears
i try to speak to you but you simply do not hear
you listen to your tunes cause your afraid of this crowd
but my songbirds are calling and your volume is just too loud

i wrote you a poem to make you feel fine
but you are trying so hard to read between my lines
twisting your heart to fit outside of every box
you're so very stressed my dear, and so very lost

but in the first spring sunshine i see your chin rise
i place my hand on your heart and you close your eyes
i've waited so long for you to lend your heart to me
can you feel in just this moment that you've been set free?

child of mine
